The Swallows of Bordeaux

Nicolai Dubois is rich, handsome, and thoroughly convinced that almost anyone should be grateful for his attention. So when Elisabeth, a celebrated circus performer known as La Princesse des Chevaux, rejects him, he refuses to accept it.

Certain that the problem cannot possibly be him, Nicolai turns to a fortune-teller for help. Instead of winning Elisabeth’s heart, he wakes the next morning transformed into a horse.

Unable to return home and unable to explain who he is, Nicolai remains near the traveling circus where Elisabeth works. As the days pass, he begins to see the world from a very different perspective. He befriends animals, finds purpose in helping others, and slowly discovers that love, friendship, and respect cannot be bought or demanded.

But when Elisabeth is kidnapped by a powerful baron determined to make her his own, Nicolai must decide what kind of person he wants to be. To save her, he will have to risk the one thing he has always valued most: himself.

Set in 1950s France, The Swallows of Bordeaux is a fairy tale about love, redemption, second chances, and the unexpected ways people change.
