Woman wth an Edge

Fraud, drugs, prostitution, extortion, and murder.
The ingredients of a cocktail it takes a special kind of person to handle.

Lise-Lotte has spent ten years on the margins: temp jobs, government benefits, a half-finished education, and a life that never quite started. Her one refuge is a small cottage in an allotment garden in Copenhagen, the only place where she can breathe. Then everything falls apart at once. Her brother dies and leaves behind a drug debt his dealers now expect her to pay. Her boyfriend walks out and suggests they stay friends. And the bank sends a letter: the cottage is about to be taken from her.

Her job as a parking attendant won't save her. But a former cop named Roland has a proposal. All she has to do is sign some papers for a lawyer's foreign client. A car lease, nothing more. No risk, no cost.

Then she walks into the lawyer's office and recognizes him. The last time she saw Anders Skimmelmann, he was holding a gun out of a car window and pulling the trigger.

She signs anyway.

What starts as a signature becomes a new life. Lise-Lotte turns out to have a talent for the underworld: she is quick, underestimated, and harder than anyone expects. The money arrives on time, followed by an apartment and a car, and for the first time she feels like someone. But the criminal economy of Copenhagen runs on debts of its own. Every favor comes with a price, loyalty is bought and sold, and everything she has been given can be taken back overnight. When the ground shifts beneath her, Lise-Lotte has to decide how far she will go to keep from falling back to where she started.

Woman with an Edge is a raw, character-driven crime novel about class, survival, and the thin line between desperation and ambition. It is neither a whodunit nor a police procedural. It is the story of a woman on the wrong side of the law, told from the inside, with an honesty that makes her impossible to judge and impossible to forget.

A morally complex female antihero readers will root for against their better judgment.
Set in contemporary Copenhagen, far from the tourist postcards: allotment gardens, parking lots, lawyers' offices, and back rooms
Nordic noir with a social edge: crime as a way out of a dead-end life.
An unfiltered narrative voice with sharp dialogue and moments of dark humor.
A strong fit for readers of Scandinavian crime fiction and character-driven women's fiction.

Content note: contains explicit sexual content, drug use, and violence.
