Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

Parts I & II
Based on an original new story by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany, a new play by Jack Thorne, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is the eighth story in the Harry Potter series and the first official Harry Potter story to be presented on stage. The play will receive its world premiere in London´s West End on 30th July 2016. It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn´t much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband, and father of three schoolage children. While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places. The Harry Potter universe has entertained and fascinated children and adults ever since the first novel, “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone”, appeared in 1997. In the book, we meet the bespectacled orphan boy Harry who lives with his aunt and uncle, the Dursleys, and their son Dudley. On his eleventh birthday, a long-held secret is revealed to Harry – he has magical powers and he is to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The series revolves around Harry’s life at Hogwarts and the ongoing struggle to defeat the series’ main antagonist, Lord Voldemort. Other major characters are Harry’s two best friends – Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger who also have important roles to play in battling the evil forces at play throughout the series. “Harry Potter and the cursed child” begins where the last of the original Harry Potter books, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” ends, with Harry saying goodbye to his youngest son Albus at King’s Cross Station. Albus is about to begin his first year at Hogwarts, but his Hogwarts experience turns out to be quite different from his father’s.
