The landscape and former region in eastern France extends over the western part of the Upper Rhine Plain and extends in the northwest with the crooked Alsace to the Lorraine plateau. Alsace borders Germany to the north and east and Switzerland to the south. Today Alsace belongs to the Grand Est region and the southern part to the Haut-Rhin department. The former towpaths along the waterways in the Upper Rhine Plain are ideal for families with children, e.g. on the Rhine-Rhône Canal on the EuroVelo 6. Sporty cyclists are challenged on mountain tours in the Vosges and in the Black Forest (Route Verte and Southern Black Forest cycle path). and kilometer hunters can prove their long-distance suitability on the left and right banks of the Rhine on the Rhine cycle path.
